P&M Kawasaki 1000
History and Development
P&M 105 was built by Richard Peckett for
sponsor Colin Aldridge in the winter of 1980 for the 81 F1 season. One of
only two "works J type" Kawasaki
engines that found their way to the
UK that year
was used. Originally the motor had an 8-plug head and Nikasil barrels
and produced a claimed 130 bhp. It is now fitted with a standard Z1100 top end but still has the original cases and CR gearbox.
Mistral Racing maintained the bike through it's racing
history and it was ridden with success by Mick Hunt and later by John
McCormick. Mick also rode the bike in the IOM TT, Dutch TT,
Ulster GP and other championship races in 1981/82/83 against the might of the works
teams. John raced it at the Manx GP and other UK National meetings in 1985 and 1986.
