| TJR in VMCC parade at the Manx Grand Prix The dream comes true for Gary and Michael.... Having had a long standing ambition to ride in a parade on the IOM circuit, the opportunity with the VMCC to ride from Quarter Bridge to the finish line was not to be missed. The parade set off after the racing had finished with closed roads all the way to the Grandstand. Judging by their faces when they got back they and the bikes enyoyed the experience.
TJR at the Jurby Festival 2010 Can the Manx VMCC Section create another fantastic event.... The second Jurby festival got off to a flying start after the wind blew the clouds away with the VMCC members and Past Masters enjoying the track sessions. Gary and Michael swapped places as they circulated around the track trying out the onboard camera. For further details www.vmccmanxrally.co.uk/
Has Claire got the racing bug? Why should the men have all the fun anyway.... The
CRMC Donnington meeting was Claire's first outing in the air cooled 500cc class. Riding the Rickman Honda 500/4, the first practice on Friday was a bit scary but on Saturday and Sunday Claire was flying around the track. This is a try out for a full season in 2011 and Claire will be out again at the CRMC meetings at Snetterton (11-12 Sept) Cadwell (9-10 Oct).
The Mother Ship has landed Fed up with packing his van, Neil's race truck arrives.... This has to be one of best race support vehicles around with great facilities, sleeping for 6, workshop and garaging for 5 bikes. The awning area is huge and is an ideal space for working on the bikes and socialising. The CRMC meting at Donnington was the trucks first outing in the TJR livery with many more to come. Keep a look out for the BIG RED truck.
Team Jam Racing go bush From track to trail and racing tyres to noblies.... As part of our summer get together, Brian hosted a weekend of alternative riding for the team and our families. A great variety of bikes were unleashed from the garage some of which had not run for several years. An AJS, BETA, KTM, Montesa Cota and Yamaha were all put through their paces over a number of marked courses. Brian provided some coaching and guidance how to approach each section and there was some spirited riding by a number of the team.
What's it like to ride a peace of biking history After 20 years, Brian gets to ride Team Bike's Honda CB1000R.... Back in the days of the Bol d'Or and Spa 24 hour endurance races Team Bike had one of the most amazing support teams around. When they decided to compete in the Spa 4 hour race last year Brian jumped at the chance to manage the team. Following Ian Martin's decision to give it one more outing at the Festivall of 1000 bikes Brian was invited to ride it before it went back to Sweden and a well earned retirement. Festival of 999 bikes at Mallory Park Could the VMCC do it again and create an even better event.... A resounding yes from the Team and although Neil was at Snetterton racing the weekend was a scorcher. TJR were again located in the club area and the marquee was put to good use as a sun shade. Arriving on Friday, the catering team of Claire and Rob moved into action and the hospitality flowed all weekend. The riding was trouble free and Sunday was topped off with some shared track sessions with a number of the
past masters. The Festival is now one of the UK's major events and is highly recommended. Moto Martin meets its maker Was he just pleased to see him or was it the new paint job.... It's hard to tell who is smiling the most - Georges , Neil or the bike. Yes bikes have feelings and it shows in this picture. After many hours of winter working the Moto Martin looks great in its updated livery. This is a hard working bike which Neil is campainging at the CRMC and New Era race meetings. Georges was very happy with Neils work and kindly signed his seat unit and crash helmet.
Bikers Day and
Bikers Classics at Spa-Francorchamps It's one of the best tracks in the world but could it be as good as last year.... After we stopped worrying about the weather and will it or won't it rain, the team spent Thursday rushing around the Spa track filming each other. Yes a new piece of kit has been purchaseed an HD camera. What fun - film yourself doing it and then watch yourself doing it again. Great for your lines and review. Having lived in the old endurance pits for a night/day the move to the F1 garage was a doddle. Like last year, TJR were next to an endurance pit and this time it was the DHolda Honda team with some fantastic looking bikes. On Friday the Team got stuck into the 4 track sessions
and the bikes have never been ridden so well and so fast. Or was it just for the camera? On Saturday it rained but it did not dampen the teams spirit and excitement and the 3 sessions all went well apart from one bike cleaner not going out. The weekend was topped off with 2 sessionss on Sunday in glorious sunshine and after packing the vans (4) we headed for home. What an amazing event, fantastic riding, meeting old friends, loads of pictures and videos of our time on the Spa track 2010. So was it as good as last year - come along and find out for yourself. Still turning heads and nearly 50 years old Manx Grand Prix picks up CRMC award....
After a four year gap the CRMC returned to Mallory Park for their May meeting. To great surpise the Triton won Parade bike of the meeting which was awarded by the CRMC marshals. An engraved tankard and bottle of wine was presented by Roger Bryant Chairman of the Club. The orginal owner Leslie Boustead, was a great fan of Mallory and had several 'friends only track days' there. His ashes are scattered on the start/finish line.
The track bikes are coming To save our precious classic bikes the team go modern....
So the team can practice their riding skills and not worry about bending their pension investments, a number of newer bikes have been added to the garage. Known collectively as the 'shitters' there are now 7 bikes with 2 Yamaha's, 3 Kawaski's and 2 Honda's. It's amazing what is available for under £2000 with great engines, good bodywork and wets on wheels. TJR off to the Sun I'll be back....
Following last Novembers successfull trip to Cartagena with Stuart, Brian is heading south again for 3 days of track time and some sun. 'Focused events rearly have got this sorted and it's amazing value. Compared to a UK track day and the weather there is no comparison. The track is excellent and has some testing corners. The riding standards are very high and I thought I was doing quite well until Steve Platter came past as if I was in first gear. The only draw back is your bike is away for a few weeks but Focused Events looked after it very well.
Bristol Classic Bike Bonanza The team go down to the woods to collect a bike....
The teams first outing of the year was to Somerset for the Carol Nash Motorcycle show. There was some stunning bikes on display and the club stands were fantastic with historic Vincents including George Browns Super Nero. The team was also at the show to collect Michael's much awaited Ducati TT1. Built by Lance Johnson of FenTiger the project started life early last year as a pile of parts and has undergone a complete restoration. Malc Wheeler, from Classic Racer was on hand to mark the occassion and cast an eye over the bike. Malc will also be out on his Moto Cinelli TT2 so they will make a great pair. The bikes that is!
TJR Dinner and Awards Night Time to look back at 2009 and plan for 2010....
To celebrate TJR's first full season, a dinner was held at the Ship Inn on Thursday 3 December. The team were joined by three new members who will be on track next year - Jane, Bob and Llloyd. Brian and Michael were MC's for the evening and provided some reminiscences of the activities and track time in 2009. The highlights of the awards was Neil for his escapades on the Moto Martin, Gary for long distance driving and Stuart for the best dressed rider. The teams prestigious Yoshimura award went to Claire for her Wok cooking at the Festival of 1000 bikes. The plans for 2010 have been agreed and have now been published.
CRMC Cadwell Race of the Year What a way to end our first season. Great track, great bikes and great fun....
To gain the maximum benefit from the trip to Cadwell, Brien,
Michael, Neil and Stuart took part in the track day organised by Motorsport
Vision. In glorious weather, the team
enjoyed 6 track seasons rushing around this fantastic track. It has everything
from sweeping left and right bends, hairpins, chicanes, hills and the
challenging mountain. It got us all ready for the CRMC end of season meeting with the team taking
part in the parades and races. Neil had
registered for his second weekend of racing and was entered in the Post Classic
1300cc group with none other than Lea Gourley and Guy Martin. TJR was joined by Ian Martin from Team Bike
who had was keen to get racing but had a few engine problems on his Yamaha RD
racer.
CRMC Official and Manx Grand Prix meet again A surprise meeting with Mel Boustead at Cadwell Park adds to history....
'So how long have you owned the bike?' A chance meeting at the CRMC Cadwell meeting with Mel Boustead, has enabled Michael to add to the history of the Manx Grand Prix. The bike passed into Mel's hands when his brother Leslie had a major heart attach while racing at the Cadwell Easter meeting 17 years ago. Leslie was very well known in the CRMC and was the editor of the Open Mega magazine for some years. 'It's nice to see the bike is still being used and in great condition'.
CRMC Snetterton Meeting It had to happen. Neil and Stuart are the first TJR members go racing...
Having wet their appetites with classic parades and track days, Neil and Stuart took the plunge and entered the CRMC Post Classic 1300cc group 1 races at Snetterton. Having sorted out some bike and rider issues on the Friday, Neil and Stuart were set. The first race went well with both finishing and they were not last! As they gained confidence their lap times improved and they started to enjoy the experiene. Even a false start by Neil and slides by Stuart did not put them off and the meeting ended with smiles all round. Now onto Cadewell for round 6.
VMCC Manx Rally Parade Rain did not stop play as two TJR members parade from Ramsey to the Grandstand...
Neil and Michael had a very wet parade run back to the finish line in Douglas. Led by the course control car and several of the travelling marshalls the closed road parade was attended by most of the Manx Rally entrants. As the practice lap was completed the heavens openned and the parade set off over the mountain section of the IOM mountain course. Thanks must go to the course marshalls who stayed on in the rain so we could take part in this amazing run.
VMCC Manx Rally Festival of Jurby Two TJR members made the trip to the IOM to attend the inaugural event...
Neil and Michael are taking part in this years VMCC Manx Rally. As part of the new management by the VMCC IOM section, a new event was planned - The Festival of Jurby. Styled on the Festivall of 1000 bikes the event was attended by hundreds of riders and spectators to see the classic road and race bikes. The track sessions.were led by Ray Knight and Michael on his Manx Grand Prix was in the first group. Sadly the rain set in the afternoon but look out for 2010 event.
Honda 50th Anniversary at the Festival of 1000 Bikes TJR member joins the Worlds first Honda 4 parade and what a sound it was. Will our ears ever recover...
 Riding his
unique Rickman Honda, Rob joined the likes of Jim Redman, Tommy Rob,
Sammy Miller and Malc Wheeler to provide the spectators with one of the best parades
ever seen at Mallory Park. Organised by Phil Morris (Morris Oils) in conjunction with the VMCC, this is first time
so many Honda 4's have been seen and heard in one place. With the benefit of no noise
restriction the bikes were heard in all their glory and gave everyone a
treat.
The Manx Grand Prix meets its maker again John Gleed makes a surprise visit to the TJR marquee and what a surprise.... Although John rebuilt the engine and gearbox in 2006 he had not seen the complete bike for over 15 years. Sadly this was just after Leslie Boustead, the original owner, had passed away at a CRMC meeting. Although the Manx Grand Prix was never raced it has appeared in a number of magazines and books. It was a great opportunity for Michael to chat with John about the bike and those little details of the parts and build in 1984.
Gus Kuhn Suzuki meets 'the frame man' After a gap of over 30 years, Ken Sprayson was reunited with one of his creations at the Festival of 1000 bikes....
'I can always recognise my work and that's one of mine' A chance meeting at the starter roller gave Gary the opportunity to meet and chat with Ken Sprayson about the bikes frame and race history. 'I went with the team (Gus Kuhn) to Barcelona for the 24 hour race. It was a long time ago and I last saw the bike in the late 70s'. It's good to know TJR's goal of keeping these bikes on the track is working.
Festival of 1000 Bikes at Mallory The VMCC has done it again and the event just gets better and better...
The team turned out in force for the VMCC's weekend at Mallory Park and what a weekend it turned out to be. TJR were located in the main club area in the race paddock with the double marquee which was used for the first time. Although it was wet on Saturday it did not dampen the spirits of the team who were out on the road bikes. A very enjoyable, trouble free day which was topped off with a BBQ by the TJR catering team of Claire and Rob. Sunday was race bike day with parades from Carl Fogarty and the past masters. 1000 bikes is a very relaxed event with the team enjoying the track sessions, catching up with old friends and making new contacts. To support the event Neil and Stuart marshalled on Sunday and clocked over 100 miles around Mallory.
Bikers Day and Bikers Classics at Spa-Francorchamps Not happy with 3 days of track sessions at Spa, the Team decided to go for it and do the Bikers day on Thursday. Was it a track session too far...
The classic bikes were left in the vans while the team rushed around this amazing track on more modern stuff. Eau Rouge must be one of the best 'balls out' sections of any track in the World. Do you drop a gear or not? The day went very well and the decamp to the F1 garage was a great relief. This year TJR had the added bonus of being next to Team Bike who were making a 23 year come back in the 4 Hour Spa Classic endurance race. Brian was doubling as team manager and track session rider so the P&M only got a few runs. With the confidence of the previous day the team got stuck into the 4 sessions and the classic bikes have never gone so fast. Although our 3 track sessions went well it rained on Saturday evening so the first session of the endurance race was a bit damp. It did not detract from the excitement in the Team Bike garage with Stephene Mertens as the lead rider. Sunday started grey and raining so the brave ones tiptoed around the track. The weekend was topped off with a 5th place for Team Bike. If anyone wants a T-shirt see Brian at 1000 bikes.
Brands GP, Spa Shake Down Hot from the California Super Bike School the team were ready to test their new learned skills on the full GP circuit at Brands...
Neil was recovering from his spill at Cadwell (bike is okay) so his mate John decided to join him. Paul stepped in to take Neil's slot and proceeded to show us how to ride a race bike. The Brands GP circuit is a very demanding track and the sessions were fast and very busy. All the bikes (and riders) performed well and there was no issues or problems. We were ready for Spa.
Donnington Park and the Classic Bike Burn Up
When the call from Focused Events came to advise us we were being moved from Mallory to Donnington (98db) we knew this was going to be a very busy weekend....

With two events, over two days at two very different tracks it was lucky we had Sunday and Monday to recover. After a very early start, Donnington was ready for action and the day passed with no problems. Focused Events really do have the track day management nailed and Donnington is a great and very fast track. After the drive to Cadwell Park and some food and sleep the team were ready to attack Cadwell's Mountain and the Classic Bike Burn Up. We also had a visit from Hugo Wilson of Classic Bike which was a great opportunity to give one of our new T-shirts away.
CRMC Darley Moor Not to be deterred by the weather, Neil and Stuart made the long drive to the meeting. It was as slippery off the track as on and mud was everywhere...
When it rains the rest of the team head for the van and a cuppa, But these two intrepid riders head for the track. Not worried by the hours of cleaning, Neil and Stuart are always ready to test themselves and have a go. They deserve a special award for attending the meeting and supporting the CRMC.
Team Jam Racing gets new Look To support our efforts in promoting the bikes and classic racing scene we have introduced our own image...
Designed by a student at the Pimlico Academy in London, the TJR logo will be seen on all our marketing material from T-shirts, post cards and new banners. Please look out for the material which will be located in our very large red marquee at the circuits.
California Super Bike School Experience After following Neil around the track and seeing how his riding has improved Brian, Stuart and Michael went back to school at Brands Hatch...
Neil joined the TJR trainees for the Monday evening open sessions which was a great way to get the team dialled into the track and ready for the course. With Brian and Stuart on Level 1 and Michael on Level 2 the course is a mix of classroom sessions followed by putting it into practice on the track. This has to be the best investment you will ever make in your riding skills and development. The CSBS team are fantastic so just go and do it.
Team Jam Racing at the Classic Bol d'Or
A reduced team of Brian, Gary and Michael made the long drive to Magny Cours for the first event of 2009... Held over the Easter weekend the Classic Bol d'Or included a 4 Hour Endurance race split over two sessions on Saturday evening (in the rain) and Sunday afternoon (sun). Located 250km south of Paris the Magny Cours track provides some challenging riding with fast sections and a number of hairpins. With two sessions on Saturday and Sunday it was just long enough to experience the track. It was well worth the drive to experience what the Bol d'Or would have been like.
ACU Course Passed
The team attended the ACU license application course on Saturday 28 February at Brands Hatch. And we managed to pass...
The course was run by Hottrax on behalf of the ACU and covered a wide range of areas from license application, race meetings, flags and regulations. Once obtained the ACU license will enable the team to gain more lap time at ACU test days and the CRMC weekends. As two of team have raced before (a long, long time ago) there is also talk of TJR taking to the track.
